#629 Bear Creek Cabin Herring Cove is one of the most requested areas of the island. It is a residential area at the end of the road where wildlife viewing is at a premium. The summer time hustle and bustle of downtown Ketchikan is only a short 8 mile drive away. One of the most popular reasons for staying in Herring Cove is the shoreline fishing. Other attractions within walking distance of the cabin include; the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary, Canopy Adventures, the fish hatchery, nature trails, waterfalls, and wildlife viewing. This is an excellent place to stay for Alaskan wildlife viewing.
The cabin has two bedrooms, one with a queen and one with two extra long twin beds. The living room has a sofa and a chair. The view from the cabin is of the creek and the mouth of the ocean. It has a private laundry room attached to the cabin with a washer/dryer. The deck has a gas barbecue and a fish cleaning table. It is small but very nice for a cabin and it is as close as you can get to the best shoreline fishing on the island. Black bears and eagles enjoy fishing in this area as well.

Very lovely place to stay. Saw some bears did some fishing and just enjoyed being out of cell phone range. Would recommend anytime.
Tiffany –Thank you for the review!
Bear Creek Cabin made for an ideal Alaskan getaway. It sits right on Herring Cove where seals frolic in the water just outside the cabin, bald eagles soar above, and evergreen is all around. The location is also ideal for its proximity to pristine hikes to Whitman Lake and lower Silvis Lake. Both are dog-friendly, as is the cabin. Lori is an excellent host; she lives next door and provided valuable insights into Kethchikan history and happenings, where to eat in town, and which shops support local authentic artists. Lori went above and beyond on many fronts during our two-week stay including helping us find safe transport for our pups on the marine ferry to helping us successfully navigate a personal computer glitch. She thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable and the furnished cabin is outfitted with all amenities including all cookware, heaters, towels, laundry (washer/dryer), high-speed WiFi (which allowed us to work remotely), TV, couch, furniture, art, and details like shampoo, fresh flowers and binoculars! Bear Creek Cabin and Lori’s hospitality exceeded our expectations in every way!
Thank you Simon for the nice review.
Traveling nurses that had a great stay here for three months. Amazing to be outside of town in a peaceful, beautiful setting with almost daily bald eagle and black bear sightings. Not to mention great salmon fishing literally right across the street. Lori was an amazing host. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks for the great memories!
Thank you both for coming to help out at our local hospital. You are appreciated!
